English Bio

Growing up on Vancouver Island, Shireen developed a strong passion for numbers and science, which led her to pursue studies at Simon Fraser University and later at BCIT. Her academic path naturally flowed into a career in finance and payroll, eventually guiding her into the world of local government. Along the way, unexpected turns introduced her to the field of labour relations, where she discovered a new calling—ultimately becoming President of her local union.
Now serving her fifth term as President of CUPE Local 374, Shireen represents over 1,000 members across seven municipalities and three community service organizations in Greater Victoria. Her role in union leadership has opened doors to opportunities at the local, provincial, and national levels, including serving as a trustee on several different Boards. Outside of work, Shireen enjoys singing the national anthem at conventions and sporting events—and she’s also a published author.
